Director | Current Term: 2023-2026
I have been a loyal shopper and supporter of the Chatham Marketplace since moving to the Chatham County in 2013. I married a farmer from Silk Hope, and now help operate our family’s diversified farm, Okfuskee Farm. We raise Katahdin sheep, mixed vegetables, fruit/nut trees, and pastured pigs.
Our farm is a current produce vendor of Chatham Marketplace, and we were founding members of the Chatham Mills Farmers’ Market, where I served on the board of the CMFM as treasurer and co-president for 3 years. With my direct experience as a farmer and vendor of the Marketplace, I hope to offer a unique, valuable perspective to the board.
My off-farm job is one of my motivators for participating with Chatham Marketplace in a more meaningful way. I am an instructor in the Environmental and Sustainability Studies program at Guilford College, primarily teaching Sustainable Food Systems classes. I am vested in learning and participating more in the field, and see this opportunity as a win-win situation.
Since my work takes me to to another county, I also want to add more energy to my nearby community and support the success of a local business that I love. I enjoy connecting with people, am a respectful team member, and would look forward to the challenge of making our local co-op even better.
